There are few things better than a good piece of steak with a creamy mushroom sauce. However, the cream part of the sauce can be an absolute fat trap. Here is a low fat and delicious alternative for you to try:

  • 10ml Canola/Olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 250g mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 TBS flour
  • 1 cup low fat or fat-free milk
  • 1 tsp Worcester sauce
  • Lemon juice, black pepper and thyme to taste
  1. Heat the oil in a pan and fry onion and mushroom until tender and browned
  2. Stir in flour until absorbed and add milk a little at a time. Stir well to form a sauce
  3. Simmer for a few minutes to thicken. Season with lemon juice, pepper, thyme and Worcester sauce.
