In social situations, it is often difficult to resist the temptation of crisps, nuts and other snacks on offer. These foods are loaded with calories and are a sure way to sabotage a diet!

The best way to equip yourself to avoid temptation is to make sure that you have had a healthy snack at home before going out, or making sure that you have healthy alternatives on offer. This is easy if you are the one entertaining. If you are visiting friends, offer to bring snacks! Here are some low-calorie options:

  • Popcorn (homemade – not the microwave version!)
  • Veggie kebabs
  • Crudite with hummus or low fat cottage cheese
  • Homemade veggie crisps
  • Lean biltong

Even with these healthy options, you need to watch your portions. Try to position yourself away from the snacks, if there are in arms reach you will keep going back for more! Focus more on chatting and catching up with friends and not on what you can eat next!
