Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You’ve heard it a million times, but do you understand why?

After fasting for 10 – 12 hours, your body needs fuel. Your brain cannot store energy, so we need to give it a constant supply. People who don’t eat breakfast often feel irritable, tired and restless in the morning. Those who do eat breakfast show a better attitude at work or school, higher productivity and better energy levels.

You may find that when you eat breakfast, you get hungry more quickly and need to eat more often. This is a good thing! It means that your metabolism is working and processing the nutrients that you are eating effectively, allowing you to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Breakfast “wakes up” your metabolism and gets it working!

Variety is key to keep your metabolism challenged and also to stop you from getting bored, so have at least 2 or 3 breakfasts that you alternate between. Here are 5 breakfast ideas that will get you leaping out of bed:

Refrigerator Oats (recipe in past blog post)

Seasonal fruit salad and yoghurt sprinkled with toasted flaked almonds
